Former Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams is set to play Roxie Hart in Broadway’s Chicago. The performer, who played the part of the merry murderess in the West End production of the musical, will play a limited engagement in Chicago from February 8 through March 28.
Williams (not to be confused with the Oscar-nominated actress of the same name) is best known for performing alongside Beyoncé in the Grammy Award-winning group Destiny’s Child. Williams played the title role in the Broadway production of Aida and appeared as Shug Avery in the Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco engagements of The Color Purple. She has also released three CDs as a solo artist.
Williams is replacing Ashlee Simpson-Wentz in the role of Roxie. Simpson-Wentz will end her limited engagement in the show on February 7.
